Information about staying healthy is easy to come by if you are hearing, but very little is made available in sign language for deaf people. That’s part of the reason that deaf people are generally not as healthy as hearing people. Information on common illnesses and advice on how to keep yourself healthy can be hard to come by in sign language.
We have been working closely with Bexley Deaf Centre to promote deaf awareness and this work prompted us to produce the BSL Health Directory.
The directory provides a selection of information video’s in British sign language, or with subtitles, on a variety of health and wellbeing topics. The videos provide advice about different illnesses and diseases as well as some self-help guides.
